Project: Rustic Entryway Organizer

Product Needed (Available from Rustika):

  • 1 x Reclaimed Wood DIY Canvas / Wall Base

Additional Materials & Tools:

  • 4-6 x Utility Hooks (small metal hooks, cup hooks, or cast iron hooks)

  • Wood Glue (Optional, for extra strength)

  • Screwdriver or Drill

  • Sandpaper (if you want a smoother finish)

  • Pencil and Measuring Tape

Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Prep Your Canvas
  1. Examine: Take a look at your Reclaimed Wood Canvas. Appreciate the unique grain and marks!

  2. Clean (Optional): If you prefer a smoother finish, use fine-grit sandpaper (120-180 grit) to lightly smooth the surface. Wipe away any dust with a dry cloth.

  3. Orientation: Decide whether you want the organizer to hang vertically (better for tall mail) or horizontally (better for a wide bank of keys). We’ll proceed with the horizontal orientation.

Step 2: Mark Hook Placement
  1. Measure: Use your measuring tape and pencil to mark the location of your hooks along the bottom edge of the canvas.

    • Tip: For 5 hooks, place the first and last hook 5 cm from the ends, and space the others evenly in between.

  2. Safety Check: Ensure your marked spots are centered on the bottom plank of wood.

Step 3: Install the Key Hooks
  1. Pre-Drill (Recommended): If you are using a drill, use a small bit to create tiny pilot holes on your marked spots. This prevents the wood from splitting when you screw in the hooks.

  2. Install Hooks:

    • If using screw-in hooks (like cup hooks), apply a tiny dot of wood glue to the thread, then twist the hook firmly into the pilot hole.

    • If using screw-on hooks (with a flat base), secure them with small screws using your screwdriver or drill.

  3. Allow Glue to Dry: If you used glue, wait about 15 minutes before handling.

Step 4: Hang and Enjoy!
  1. Install Hangers: Flip the organizer over and securely attach two D-ring hangers (or picture wire) to the back for hanging.

  2. Mount: Mount the organizer near your front door.

  3. Fill It Up: Hang your keys, drop your incoming mail and sunglasses into the slot, and admire your stylish new, handmade entryway organizer!
